The Type 56 assault rifle is a Chinese copy of the Kalashnikov AK-47. It is easily identifiable by the folding "spike" bayonet attached to the barrel just aft of the muzzle.
The Type 56 was replaced by the Type 81 in PLA service during the 1980s.
Chinese Type 56 variantsEdit
- Type 56 (fixed stock)
- Type 56-1 (under-folding stock)
- Type 56-2 (sideways folding stock)
- Type 56C (QBZ56C) Shorten version in use with the Chinese Navy and for export market.
A variant chambered in 5.56mm was also produced for the export market.
Type 56 assault rifles are of somewhat lower quality than other AK-47 variants.Template:Cn
Type 56 carbineEdit
The "Type 56" designation was also used for Chinese version of the SKS, known as the Type 56 carbine, but the designs are entirely distinct.
